Moscow – Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has summed up roaming results over New Year holidays. The company has registered an 8-fold increase in mobile data in international roaming compared to last year’s winter holidays.
Between 31 December 2016 and 8 January 2017, duration of calls in international roaming increased 12% compared to the same period last year. Mobile Internet traffic consumed by Tele2 clients abroad showed an 8-fold growth. The number of subscribers who spent winter holidays abroad has increased 16% this year.
On New Year holidays, Tele2 subscribers visited 157 countries of the world. The list of top-10 holiday destinations is headed by Belorussia. Other most visited countries were Ukraine, Finland, Kazakhstan, Poland, Estonia, Thailand, Armenia, Moldavia and Germany. Among new holiday destinations were long-haul getaways such as Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Paraguay.
During the holiday season, Tele2 subscribers actively used voice services while travelling across Russia: the voice traffic increased 16% compared to the same period last year. The number of SMS sent from various regions of the country added 14% y-o-y.
Just as one year ago, mobile service in national roaming turned out to be more popular than calls and messages. Thus, while travelling across Russia, the volume of downloaded traffic has increased more than 3-fold compared to last year’s results. Most active in the use of mobile Internet were Tele2 subscribers from Moscow, Vladimir and St. Petersburg.
Besides, while staying in international and national roaming, Moscow subscribers were actively calling via Wi-Fi networks. Thanks to the Wi-Fi Calling application, the operator’s clients may call to any phone numbers, text and accept SMS at rates of a home region. Over New Year holidays, a number of installations has increased almost 20%, users of the service daily made 15.5 thou calls.
